Programming Director

Position Title: Programming Director

Location: Tucson, AZ 

SUMMARY: Under the guidance of the Chief Broadcast Engagement Officer, oversees format, music, programming, and announcers’ performance. Possibly host a network on-air personality driven show that aligns with fulfilling Intentional Life Media’s ministry mission that presents a brand aligned message meeting the needs and tastes of the target audience(s). The Programming Director encourages and connects interactively with the listener while communicating the centric message of FLC’s mission to affirm faith, provide hope and encourage growth in Christ.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

  • Supervises, encourages, and equips the national on-air ministry team including off-campus contracted voice trackers. This includes participating in recruitment, selection, training, development, performance evaluation, documentation, and discipline of all on-air staff in accordance with ministry policy and procedures and in compliance with applicable federal, state, and municipal law. This includes regular talent coaching of all networks on-air hosts.
  • Serves in creative partnership with the Chief Broadcast Engagement Officer in development of content and execution of campaign strategy for the fulfillment of mission throughout the Broadcast Engagement Department.
  • Maintains 100% compliance with all legal, regulatory, and financial requirements including ensuring the on-air product is in compliance with all applicable FCC regulations
  • If needed develops and presents a daily, five-hour, listener-focused, Christ-centered on-air program that effectively communicates a personal relationship with Christ within the context of ILM’s Statement of Faith;
  • Presents a Biblical worldview in the language of our target audience
  • Speaks with a voice that connects well with our target audience; demonstrates the ability to create memorable moments causing the listener to become emotionally attached to the on-air product; and identifies what is the “top of mind” of our target audience
  • Demonstrates a capability of running the broadcast board and interacting with the technical environment, including show prep of recorded elements e.g. spots, bits and promos
  • Assists with other announcer functions including, but not limited to, working on-air shifts during FLC’s Fund Drives (includes early mornings and weekend work)
  • Makes personal appearances.
  • If needed voice tracks a weekend program.
  • Creates or helps in the creation of a podcast with content that fulfills Intentional Life Media’s mission and vision

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: 

  • Demonstrates the ability to communicate a biblical worldview through the programming staff to our target audience.
  • Ability to lead and manage a team for successful accomplishment of ministry objectives.
  • Strong working knowledge of and ability to report on Neilson (PPM) data; insight to create and deploy strategy that results in consistent improvement in listener growth.
  • Strong knowledge of FCC rules and regulations having to do with radio broadcasting.
  • Ability to create and maintain a team atmosphere amongst the programming team.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and objectives.
  • Demonstrates the ability in interacting with the technical environment of the station or network.
  • Ability to communicate a Christian worldview in the language of the target audience.
  • Ability to work within an on-air team and in the community, seeing through each campaign or assignment.
  • Ability to quickly (and accurately) record, edit and air listener interactions & commentary.
  • Demonstrates a strong ability to identify what is “top of mind” of our target audience.
  • Must consistently project a high-level of energy and effectively connect with the listener.
  • Ability to professionally represent ILM both on-air and in person; requires maturity, poise, and professionalism (includes presenting a professional appearance).
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and decision-making skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills including ability to write, edit and proof business documents.
  • Strong presentation skills.
  • Strong PC skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Proven to be creative “out of the box” thinker

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Broadcasting or related field or equivalent education and experience.
  • 5 years directing music and programming at Christian music formatted radio stations.
  • 5 years of radio station (or network) hosting of music shift.
  • 5 years increasing management responsibility.
  • 3 years supervisory experience.
  • On-air announcing ability to perform the Preeminent Standard of Interactive Broadcast Ministry.
